TN visa - approval chances for an engineer

Hi All, I was working in the US on H1B for 4 years and then moved to Canada. I'm a Canadian citizen having 15+ years of IT experience with Bachelors in Information Science Engineering degree. I'm looking for a job in the US, but i'm not sure if I need to look for an employer who can sponsor a TN visa or who can sponsor an H1B visa as I have almost 2 years still left on my old H1B quota. If I've to go H1B route then my visa and petition has expired already, so the new employer needs to apply H1B cap exempt and recapture the days left in my old H1B.

If I've to go TN path, by going through other threads in this forum, it looks like getting a TN visa is very difficult these days. Therefore, I'm quite confused on how to proceed. It would be really helpful if anyone here can provide some suggestions. Thank you.

It is certainly NOT difficult, if you have the the degree that matches the job description -- as it always has been.
It is true that H1-B allows for greater flexibility with respect to degree vs. job, but that too has always been the case.

It will depend on what job offer you get, and if the sponsor is willing to spend the money on a 2-year H1-B and/or at some point go back in the in the meantime, (because you have been outside US for more than a year, you are eligible for a fresh clock.).

In your situation H1-B , while easier to get for now, may be more problematic in the future.

Thank you so much for your reply. Just I have a question regarding H1-B clock reset, does that mean I have to go through the lottery again ?
