TN visa and children in school

A friend of mine was recently let go due to a company bankruptcy and was working in the states on a TN visa. He understands that he needs to leave the country but can return as a non working visitor for at least a few months (and hopefully a new job offer would come up). Can his daughter (grade school) still attend school during this time? Or is she effectively expelled as well?

Answered on the canuckabroad forum. B status, which she could only get by leaving US, establishing home in Canada and then trying to return several weeks later, prevents her from going to Public school. She and her family are out of status until they leave US.
