TN / TD Status if stay out of USA

Hello Gurus,

I am a Canadian citizen working in the USA on TN status. My wife and kids are coming to join me this month. My family will apply and obtain TD status at the Calgary airport.

How long can my family stay out of the USA after obtaining TD status? Is there any limit on the duration of stay outside the USA after obtaining TD status?

Also, how many months can I stay out of the USA on TN status for vacation purposes without receiving a salary? Is there a limit on the duration of stay outside the USA?

Thanks

Your family never need to re-enter US once they receive their TDs. They remain valid for the duration of their I-94s. There is no residency requirement for TD.

For a TN to remain valid, you simply must maintain a sponsor/beneficiary relationship, ie. not be fired. laid off, quit, terminate your contract. As long as the relationship exists and your I-94 is still valid, you can re-enter anytime. There is no residency requirement for TN.
