TN Status Question

Hello

I recently finished my employment in the US abruptly while on TN Status and left the US.
Since it was something abrupt and unplanned my TN Visa still has some months before it expires.

My question is, in case I want to go back to the US as a tourist or for some reason other than work, can I still use my TN Visa (before expiration) to enter or do I have to get the proper tourist visa?

Thanks

Cdns do not get consular visas, Mexicans with TN visa still need to establish residence in Mexico before getting a B-2 visa.

nfrg, your TN is dead. Period. You can re-enter US as a tourist, as soon as you establish (to the CBP officer's satisfation) a full-fledged foreign home . That will take as slong as it takes for you to sign a lease, get phone/utilities connected, driver's license, etc, and carry proof of this with you next time you cross. I trust you handed back the I-94 to the Cdn officer when you left US, as this is a requirement. if you haven't mail-it in NOW.

For the next time, remember that it is not necessary to 'abruptly' leave US when laid-off. You should file (the day of lay-off) and I-539 requesting B-2 status in order to wrap up affairs. This gives you time to pack and/or find a new TN job.

But, once you leave US soil after lay-off, you cannot re-enter without eiother proof of foreign residence, or another TN.
