TN status for 3 years???

Does anybody has knowledge if the regulation of TN for 3 years would be effective anytime soon? Earlier some one suggested that it would be from the start of 2008 but that came out not to be the case.

I think this will become available with enough fanfare that we don't need to keep asking here.

It will come when it comes.

Don't alter plans waiting for it.

I am confused. My girlfriend and a few friends of her, and one mine, have acquired a TN with 3 year validity. I thought it is now a fact... what did I miss?
is there any official document stating the possible terms?

edit: it seems I got confused with the terminology, yeah my fault, the US doesn't complicate anything (sarcasm)
from what I understand, it's just the visa (which Mexicans require, but Canadians don't) but the term for the status is still only one year am I right?

You are correct. The VISA, obtained only by mexicans, could be 3 years, but the status, neede by both mexicans and ZCdns, is still only 1 year at a time.
