Hi All/Nelson,
I would really appreciate some advice here.
I've been offered employment by CitiBank in Florida, subject to a drug test and some fingerprinting requirements, which must be done in the USA. I can drive down to Buffalo and get this done, as advised by the HR person at Citi.
I have a soft copy of the Offer letter and am a Canadian citizen with a Bachelor's in Finance from Univ of Waterloo. A hard copy has been mailed to me too. I have a house in Brampton, a wife (NOT a Canadian citizen yet) and a 9 month old son (Canadian citizen).
Here are the questions I have:
1. Since I have to drive to Buffalo anyway, should I apply for the TN status at Rainbow/Queenston bridge first, then proceed to get the testing done? Could my TN can get denied because my employment is subject to these tests, which havent been done yet and my start date is August 26th?
- The advantages here are that I can get everything done, get my TN, come back to Toronto, resign from my job and then fly to Florida.
2. At the border, should I mention that I intend to get these testing done at Citi in Buffalo? Or should I just apply for a TN and then proceed to get the tests done?
- If I tell them, I'm being honest but maybe staking the possibility of a rejection? If I dont, then am I at risk of getting rejected for not telling the purpose of my visit to Buffalo?
3. If I do NOT apply for TN at the border, can I then head to Pearson around 7th Aug to apply for a TN, WITH the intention to fly around 25th Aug, then if I get it, resign from my current job and then fly to Florida?
- Essentially I'm just trying to get the TN before flying and having to resign from my job.
4. Regarding my wife and my son, I do not plan on taking them with me right away. Once I get to Florida and settle down, I intend on coming back and taking them with me. Now I have two options: they both fly and I fly or I drive down in a u-haul truck, with my car being towed. This way, I can get my car and furniture and household stuff all in one trip. Now, can my wife and son still get a dependent visa, since I have a TN and I am not even flying with them? (since I would be driving down and they would be flying)
5. Finally, are there any suggestions you experts have for my situation?
Thanks a lot everyone!
