TN letter date

This is a pretty basic question but I just don't want to make any dumb mistakes.
My current TN is stamped on my passport as valid until January 3, 2021. I'm flying to Canada on Thursday, December 17 to renew/apply for new TN. What should the TN letter list as the date of starting employment? Is it January 3, or December 17? Also, do I need a new job offer letter? Is it ok if the TN letter says I will continue to be employed etc., or should my boss just use the original letter and treat as a new hire?
Thanks

The letter need not have the start date of your job , but the letter should be dated... you can get it dated close to the day you are going to get your TN. I remember, for my first TN, the date on the letter issued is 20th Dec, however, I went to border a month later, I got TN without any issues.. so, it should be fine...

You are going to work for the same company, so, if they mention that you are already working with them, but, they want to extended your employment with them for another 3 years, they can add that in the letter.. that shouldn't be a problem..

Our company also stated the same in the letter for my TN extension .. I am going sometime first week of Jan to get the TN

The letter can mention your current employment, but realize that "extensions" (meaning adding time after the end of your current TN) are not granted at the border. They issue a "new" TN will be issued for 3 years, less a day, from the day you show up at the border.
