Hi Everyone...

I successfully obtained my TN for U.S. employer Nov 2007. The CBP agent asked few questions but made this statement as a cautionary warning:

" I do not reccommed travelling outside the western hemisphers with a TN"

and i did not question him as I was so nervous and just thankful i was issued.

This is my question to you guys:

If i wanted to travel to Europe etc for a vacation, is it a problem when i am currently on TN Status?

Thanks and Have a Happy New Year!!

It was a stupid statement. carry a photocopy of your I-94 and a mini copy of your petition paperwork, and nothing can go wrong.

CBP like to twist the knot when they sense you are nervous

Yes, as nelsona said that was a stupid statement. There's nothing in NAFTA or TN provision about not traveling outside the western hemisphere. I've traveled in Europe and Asia with a TN a few times before. Just make sure to make a copy of your I-94 as it is customary that they take your I-94 once you travel outside US and Canada. However, once you return to US make sure to ask for another I-94 with your TN status. I suggest that you hold on to your original I-94 card when you travel outside US/Canada and make sure that airline agents don't take it out from your passport.

Good luck!
