TN > GC vs TN > H1B > GC

Hi, is there any drawbacks to going the TN > H1B > GC instead of the TN > GC route? Also do you guys know of the pros and cons of each approach. Thank you.
My assumptions:
TN > GC:
- no need to go through the H1B lottery
TN > H1B > GC:
- easier to travel and leave the US during the whole process if needed

Obviously, having an H1-B makes the final stage of GC easier. But it doesn't help much before that, and can be a hindrance.

The problem is getting to that final stage in a reasonable timeframe. Not only does one have to get the H1-B, one also has to convince their sponsor that the GC process can begin without getting H1-B -- not always an easy sell. It's the unnecessary delay that makes the TN ->H1-B -> GC route less attractive.

So it is not an either/or situation. Have the sponsor begin the GC process as soon as possible -- while on TN -- and if the employer is successful at getting you an H1-B during the GC process, fine. If not, the inconvenience of waiting for EAD can be dealt with.
