TN denied

I am an independent consultant. I have a contract with a US firm to do work for them. I was told that I can obtain a TN visa with the signed contract(it does contain the NAFTA title of Management consultant and specific duties of the assignment ) along with my university degrees and past experience.

Well, it was denied at Pearson. The CBP officer refused to look at the contract at all. He said that I must have a proper TN support letter from the US firm.

I am hoping to get answers to the following questions:

1. Was the US firm wrong it saying that a sign contract is sufficient or was the CBP officer between too strict?
2. In light of the denial, I am now given the option of re-applying with the TN letter or completing the assignment from home by logging into their network. If I was to complete the work from home, will the fact that I was denied a TN on this job adversely affect my future TN applications?
3. I read on the INS or US state dept website that there is something called withdrawal of TN application but I was rather confused by their explanations. Is this what I should do if I opt to complete the work from home?

Thanks in advance

1. To not prepare a TN letter was lazy on their part. To not accept the contract as valid for TN was lazy on the POE part. You are the person most affected by this, so make sure you insist your future employer is less lazy than POE, since there is n't much you can do about POE.
2. Fix the petition and get your TN. To work remotely when you could be on site will not always be best for you.
3. This does not apply.

Thanks for the quick reply. It wasn't laziness on the part of the US firm. It seemed like they were all worried about some kind of liability or unspecified ( at least not to me anyway) trouble with INS the letter may bring them which in fact made it so much more difficult to convince them that they need to produce a TN support letter.
