TN Denied - Computer Systems Analyst

Hi ,
I am a Canadian citizen and I have more than 6 years of experience as Software Developer Engineer in Test but my educational background is not IT related:
I have a Masters degree from the USA (NOT it related) and my bachelors degree is also NOT it related!
After receiving a job offer from a US company I went to Rainbow Bridge (CBP) to apply for TN status (first time).
I provided all my documents, but the officer denied my application and he said that my educational background is not IT related that is why I am not qualified.

What would you recommend as the second step?
Should I ask my company to apply via i-129 premium processing from the USA?..would it help?..or what?..pls, HELP!

It was clear to the officer that you do not meet TN requirements, and the same will happen with USCIS application.

Your next choice is to either get a job in the field you studied (if that is in an eligible TN category), OR have sponsor apply for an H1-B for you, where there is not such a defined link between education and job description.

Thank you for your response.. I really appreciate it... I agree that my educational background is not directly related to the field that I am working.. But is it still possible to make a supportive letter that will prove my professional background is matching for that position and I have enough capabilities to fulfil my obligations, or still regardless of my professional work history my educational background MUST match to that position?

What was your degree in? I've heard from my lawyer, in some cases, USCIS processing is more lenient with "related" degrees in specific fields and it might be a better option. But if you are already outside the United States, I am not sure how strong the USCIS pre-approval will be since you still need it to be activated at a POE anyway.

Have you taken computer-related courses in either undergrad or postgrad?
Nelsona is correct, experience means nothing in the world of TN. It's ultimately on your degree, but computer-related courses have helped plenty of people without computer science degrees qualify for the CSA category. Not saying it's a guarantee, it ultimately depends on your officer at the POE and how qualified/or how many courses they want to see. That's why applying via USCIS might be a safer route if you are in the country.

Yes I do have some computer and data related courses.. you think they might be helpfull?

Most definitely. Those computer courses are all you have to make your case.
I'd highlight those and explain how they relate to your profession, how they have prepared you for the role, etc.
Ultimately you need to present a case showing you are qualified, trained, and ready to take on this role.

Just an example of a success story. It's been done, but it's always a gamble unless your degree matches the category exactly.

Even with this method of showing computer courses and whatnot, there's still no guarantee of getting approved for a CSA, and (again I can't stress this enough) simply depends on your officer at the POE.
The world of TNs is totally different and weird with things like depending on the officer's mood, and cross-changeability of degree majors, lol I'm not a fan myself I think H1B is the gold standard so aim for that long term.

Out of curiosity, why not apply for Economist jobs? or apply for a TN under economist?
In theory, you're the perfect candidate for the Economist category with a degree that matches.
That TN Application would be a home run lol
