I have a confirmed offer from a company for "Software Engineer". I have work experience at my current company with the stuff that I would be doing at the new company in US. However, my official degrees, both Bachelors of Engineering as well as Masters of Engineering are in Mechanical Engineering. I have been doing part-time business as Software Consultant for past 4 years.

The work involved in the new company is for device drivers and middle layer on embedded devices. These tasks are specific for Software engineer.

So I don't know which title should I be using for the TN Letter. Does me not having a computer engineering have an issue with TN? Shouldn't the experience be good enough? I could get my supervisor (P.Eng) to write a letter for me detailing the experience that I have at current company.

Please advise.

There is indeed a big difference for a Mech working on Software and doing what you are doing.

You can use sofware engineer as TN category, but you need to have the job description hit any possible Mechanical engineering ties, such as what the softwrae will ultimately be used for.

For example, my TN was as a software engineer, but my Mech degree was the sole basis, and was accepted without question, as I was developing thermohydraulic and nuclear modelling, which is clearly Mech work.

Remember, the TN category, job description, and your education all have to mesh.

Are you going into control systems?

nelsona - I always thought your work was more financial in nature.
