TN approval no longer applicable

I received a TN approval from USCIS as a management consultant. I have travelled once into the US with the approval. The officer eventually let me in, but was very suspicious that I was not a really a management consultant as I had been refused this TN visa on the border previously due to that officer thinking I was a manager, not a management consultant. The officer said "Do not take this lightly" and that she did not have time to interview me this time, but next time she will.

I am back in Canada, I have changed employer so the TN approval is no longer applicable.

I would like to travel to the US to attend a conference for a few days.

Do I inform the officer that my prior TN approval is no longer applicable?
Am I likely to be refused entry due to my previous TN visa application refusal?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Phil

If your new employer is American (and if your visit is related to that employer), then you would require new TN. But if not, you would be entering on B1 status to attend any (business related) conference.

No need to "inform" any officer, unless you are specifically asked about your prior status.

Thank you for the fast response. The new employer is American but I will be hired through their Canadian entity. I believe that as a Canadian citizen I do not need to apply for a B1 visa to enter on B1 status for the conference, but please let me know if you think I do need a B1 visa.

Ok. You do not need a new TN if you are living / employed in Canada and will be traveling to the US just for the conference.

That's correct. It is just a status, not a visa.

Thank you @bigboy00 for your fast responses. I have one more question. Am I likely to be refused entry to attend the conference due to my previous TN visa application refusal?

It depends on why you were denied. If the denial was only due to " suspected being a manager instead of consultant", you should be ok - since you are not seeking TN status anymore. Good luck!
