Hi there, we're two foreigners in F1/F2 visas about to switch to H1b and H4 (after a year of OPT that'll start this September). H4 visa is obviously so limited that I really need to know when I will finally be able to work, so that I can time going for grad school right before.
My husband is a PhD and the H1 comes through a PostDoc position at a university, and we really think they will sponsor the Green Card as well (they've been very accommodating and willing to offer us an H1 even if they usually do J1). From what I've heard, in these cases things are usually expedited: is that true? How quickly could I expect my I-458 to go through once we apply for the GC after the OPT year? I've heard just 6 months but I've also heard they're completely stuck after 2005, so I'd welcome any data!
