Time frame for getting a file number?

I have applied for canadian PR in buffalo, NY, on 16th feb, what is the timeframe for getting a file number? also How long will the whole process take (approximate time)?

It took about four months to get the whold things done.
I knew from my classmate who went through this via a lawyer.
By the way, you applied by yourself or by lawyer?
If by yourself, can you give out details?what is the web you can get the application form and how much bucks you spent?

Hi Tao Sun,

I applied by myself, I went to www.cic.gc.ca, where in you can download forms fill them out, get the FBI finger printing, send out the processing fees and also the ROLF fees (You can pay the ROLF fees when you land or right now) and send them.

The fee schedule is written in the forms and the guide.

Did your friend get the whole immigration done in 4 months or he got the filenumber in 4 months?

I still have that question "How much time does it take to get a file number?"

I got my file number after waiting 4 months, and I have been waiting for interview for 6 months. I am in US, and applied by myself.

Hi,

  It took me 1 month to get the fileno, another 1 month to get the medical exam form. Got Landing paper 2 months after taking the examination. Total 4 months. Applied by myself.
