Threats of deportation, but was allowed in the country

Hello there,

I have a weird story to share. 2 years ago I visited the Unites States as a tourist (staying at a friend's). Unfortunately, it seemed that I didn't have with me enough credentials (for example I did not have my friend's address) to convince the agents that I was actually a benevolent visitor, and I ended up in immigration...

I was kept there for 4-5 hours, was told that I would be deported the next day, and that I could potentially never be able to visit the country again. After long sessions of interrogation an officer asked me for my passport number. For some reason they had messed up some characters (which is odd my passport is scannable). Anyway he left in a rush, came back around 15 minutes later and informed me that I was free to go. When I asked him why, how, what? He just blinked and said "have fun". I thanked him and left.

So, two years later, I have passed some online interviews and already have an offer to work in the USA. Can I do it? It seems like I am banned but was pity-left in the country... what's up with that?

I am inclined to believe the whole situation was an error on their part, afterall I was a tourist and I stayed there for the 15 days I was supposed to. But I also signed various papers which I really don't know what stood for while I was in the immigration office :s (yes I know, foolish from my part - but I really had no choice, but to comply to the officer's instructions.)

So, what should/can I do?

That was just a confusion. You are not banned. They would have made that clear if you were, and you would have been deported.

Apply for the working visa. You will find out if you were banned or not though I doubt it. Yes really dumb of you to sign paperwork you had no idea about.

Good luck!
