someone who really hated Koym2r_Maapilai created another id
Koym2r_Mapillai and you are replying to this new id...

GeeCeeSaga,

Thirukural is a piece of literature written over 2000 years ago, in Tamil (hope this doesn't spark off another fight) by a great poet named "ThiruValluvar".

There are 133 chapters with 10 "kural"s each, making the total 1330. Each kural is composed of, exactly, 7 words (kinda like Haiku, I guess) but is so rich in meaning that one could write paragraphs about it.

These short verses were meant for the ruler, educated elite, ordinary worker and any ordinary citizen, highlighting the duties of each. Basically, it advocated a code of conduct for people in every walk of life.

About Thirukkural

I have been noticing the lack of respect for other languages and cultures by fellow Indians in this forum. India is a country that is made up of different cultures and languages as you all know. There is no excuse for an Indian to degrade their own language, literature or culture. If you are from across the border, then that is a different story.

To tell you about Thirukkural, I found a good site that gives an insight to the great literature. Remember that this is one of the literatures that has been most translated to other languages - second only to The Bible. Here is the link

http://www.geocities.com/athens/5180/thkrl.html

Any response to the above is welcome, foul or nice!

ok first and formost godhelpusgc I didn't even know what thirukul stood for. It was not my lack of respect of literature or religion that sparked my statement. It was the utter lack of respect of the person who was posting it for his very own literature that sparked it.
The person who posts this should be able to post it appropriately and as per context. Not just a statement made every few days for no reason what soever in a portal that is predominantly dominated by english speakers. If it was his intention to convey this to us he should have conveyed it in a language that is commonly understood by all.
I have never been disrespectful about any language or religion neither in this forum nor in my life. It is just not the way I function. I hope this clarifies your thoughts on this subject.
And the portal is common for all is something I understand. But if you are posting something that is not GC related and something that may seem nonsensical to some because they can't even understand the context, you are opening yourself to ridicule.

by the way thank you prajaram and godhelpusgc for the link. I for one love to read about literature from different walks of life and will enjoy exploring the link.

Thirukkural

Mr.Mappillai,

I thought you will continue posting Thirukkural atleast till

"Ennith thuniga karumam - Thuninthapin
Ennuvam Enpa thilukku".

Meaning:
"Think before doing anything. Thinking after/during doing is a shame".

But you were fast.

Now that you are releaved from this, do your other work and wait for your GC.

Thanks

Sharabi!

How do you know we dont follow what we read? You do not know all the facts. Do not talk off your head without any basis. Tamils respect other Indian languages but we also respect our own language.

Go to Chennai (Madras), you will get the same respect even if you do not talk Tamil. Do that in any other Hindi speaking state, you will be given a cold shoulder. You can continue to read Hindi or any other language in Tamil Nadu, without the government forcing you.

Please read the Government rules (8th Schedule to the Constitution of India). It says that many Indians take pride in their regional languages, many of which have old and honoured literatures and are the expression of a great cultural heritage. The fear that this heritage would one day be lost (example Latin & Greek) created the 8th schedule.

The Indian government now recognizes 16 regional languages as official languages. The eighth schedule to the Constitution of India mentions 16 regional languages in addition to Hindi

What are you talking about when you say Tamils do not respect things of national importance? It too sends its sons to the Army, Navy and Air Force. We have never asked for our own independent country like Punjab or Assam or Kashmir. We have done everything to stay united with India. What more do you ask for? What more other Indian states have done of national importance? What has Hindi-speaking Bihar done for national integrity or importance.

Before you write something in a public forum, think if it has any relevance. Since you are a faceless member of the forum does not give you right to talk what you want. It only shows your ignorance.

Search for people from Tamil Nadu who have contributed to the nation in so many different ways. I am not in any way degrading any other state or language here. I am merely pointing out that Tamil speaking people are good peace loving citizens as any other good citizens. Keep in mind that the first Asian Noble Prize winner Sir C V Raman was from Tamil Nadu too.

You can respond to this however you want, I do not care because I have said what I wanted to.

One last word, you will probably respond in all Bold letters. That does not mean that you have had the last say or are right. It only shows your childishness to prove a point by shouting. Keep your cool when you respond.

Sharabi doesn't know anything other than a few words (spelling .. quite questionable).

Almost every post of his will invariably contain these words:

weird (nice to know that you have learnt its spelling)
crazy
hardheaded (add a "ness" sometimes)
stubbornness
national language (highest frequency of all words)
national importance
integrate (or any variation of it)
national unity (he should be the LAST person to talk about it)

Sharabi,

If you don't know the important aspects of my language why should I learn anything about "a" language to which you seem to attach so much importance?

A language isn't called a national language for the heck of it! It should actually be used a lot to do something productive with it. By that token, English would easily pass as a "working" national language even though it has foreign roots.

So, in short, we respect our national language (english) and are spending time enjoying the fruit (thirukural) of our mother tongue!

May be it is time you started respecting English as a "practical" (inter)national language.

Many in/from North may not agree but the fact is that South Indians are much more disciplined/sincere than North Indians.

If I'm on the ignore list of someone, how does that someone know that the message is directed towards them?

One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to know that he shouldn't click on a post that is labeled as from a person on their ignore list!!

Or, is it that even though I am on the ignore list, the person just doesn't have enough self-control to NOT read my messages?.. LOL
