Things to do after taking the oath

Hi!

Finally, I am a citizen! I just took the oath last week. At the ceremony, the speaker announced things to do after the oath such as apply for passport, start sponsoring family members, inform social security administration, etc. My question is about informing the social security office. What will happen if I skip this step? If I really have to do this, I read from their website that I have to have my Certificate of Naturalization and go there in person. The thing is, I just applied for a passport and they took my certificate, I only have a copy that the passport office made. Would this suffice at SSA? Is there a deadline for me to inform SSA since I won't have my original certificate back in 6 weeks (time frame for the passport).

Thanks!

You can go to SSA anytime after you receive your passport. You can show either passport or CoN. There is no deadline.

I went to SSA office to upgrade my status and order a new card with my new name change. Got the card today.
By the way the SSA office took my old SSA card and they told me I don't need it any more. It's a bit of a surprise for me because I was planning to use that card for a new enhanced driver license.
Just make sure you make a copy of that SSA card before you hand it over.
