Things to consider when applying for SSN while on H4 status after receipt of EAD

Immigration gurus,

My wife is on an H4 (I am on a H1B) and we recently got our EAD cards in the mail. I believe having an EAD makes my wife eligible for a SSN. What are the implications (/effects) of her applying for a SSN on her(and my) current and future status in the US ?

What would the implications be if she were to start working on the EAD ? Does it mean they are no longer eligible to be on the H status (H1 and H4 extension and the H visas) ? Are there any reasons you would recommend H1 and H4 visa holders not to use their EAD documents?

Does the same advice apply for Advance Parole documents as well?

Thanks a lot!

-----------------Yes

----------nothing, she can get her SSN by going to SSA office , she need to show her EAD, passport and fill the form

What would the implications be if she were to start working on the EAD ?
------------she will NOT be on H4 status

--one can have EAD and not to use EAD in that situation you are on H1 and wife on H4. if YOU(the primary H1 holder) use EAD then you will invalidate your H1 status and wife will not be on H4 status. if your wife use EAD for work she will not be on H4 but you remain on H1(if you dont use EAD for work)

Are there any reasons you would recommend H1 and H4 visa holders not to use their EAD documents?
-----------------H1 is good back up if anything goes wrong with I-485

Does the same advice apply for Advance Parole documents as well?

-------------AP is used to enter US if you dont have validH1 visa stamp or H4 visa stamp ( if you plan to use AP then AP need to be applied in US and need to be approved before you go out of US)

Thanks a lot!
