Temporary EAD Card

Hi,

My wife's approved EAD card went back to USCIS. Is there any way to get a temporary EAD card until the original arrives. I heard from a friend that you can get one from the local field office. Can I apply for a SSN with this temporary EAD Card?

Sorry i dont have a answer to your question but wanted to know why it was sent to USCIS becasuse i am also waiting for my approved EAD
 
I assume Interim EAD (iEAD) is what you mean by Temporary EAD. Interim EADs are issued only when your 765 remains unapproved after 90 days of filing. However, if your 765 case is already approved, they will not issue and iEAD. Instead you can get a replacement EAD by going to your local INS office. However it will probably cost the same amount as you paid for the 765 application. (The iEADs are free of charge)
