TD Visa from Indian Passport to Canada

Hi,

My daughter was given TD visa on her Indian passport (valid until Dec 2025). Recently she changed her nationality to Canada and expecting her Canada passport in coming weeks. Once she got the Canada passport, we will need to send her Indian passport for cancellation. My question is, what happens to her TD visa? Do we need to get TD visa again on her Canada passport? She entered and lives in US based on TD visa in Indian passport. Can she continue to stay in US after her Indian passport is cancelled? Or I must exit US immediate and re-enter with her Canada passport and apply for new TD at POE? Kindly advise.

Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter the US into most nonimmigrant statuses, including TD. So she would never need to get a TD visa on her Canadian passport. I believe she can continue to stay in the US on her current TD I-94, since TD status is not dependent on nationality. But I am not 100% sure on that.

Her TD (i-94) remains valid, since nothing about the underlying TN has changed. As pointed out, she no longer needs a consular visa, so can travel freely, merely showing her I-94 and new passport when re-entering. CBP will likely restamp her status (not a visa stamp) in her Cdn passport the first time.

Thanks for your reply. So she can travel with her Canada passport and cancelled Indian passport. Cancellation of Indian passport doesn't make her TD invalid on it. Am I right.

Forget about her canceled Indian passport now - she is Canadian : canceled Indian passport has no value (and she does not need to carry that).

Thanks to Nelsonna and bigboy00, I really appreciate your feedback. Actually, you saved me a trip. One more question on this. Her I94 clearly shows her citizenship as India and Indian passport number. As per my understanding, it does not matter as the TD was issued based on my TN. Next time when we re-enter, the officer will likely transfer the TD status to Canada passport, this will change citizenship and passport number in her I94. Please correct me if there is any misunderstanding. Thanks again.
