TB skin test

I had a BCG vaccine when I was kid so last time I had skin test done, it came back positive. Xray was clear but they put me under 6 months treatment anyway (Now I learned that it was totally unnecessary)

I just had another skin test today. I told the nurse it will most likely come back positive again. It's been several hours and the tested area is still normal. I know they'd need to wait for 2 days to see the result but I am having a hope that maybe this time it might come back negative. Maybe the unncessary treatment changed something in my system.

If you had TB skin test done and came back positive, how long did it take for the area to start changing? I know...I'm being impatient. I rather not spend the extra money on the xray and get another day off of work again.

Okay once you are PPD psitive you are most likely always +ve. The antigens against M. Tuberculosis persist and thats what you basically want because that protects you from getting the disease. So ideally once you have been deemed +ve and have had the treatment.....I dont know why they would be doing the PPD again. How long ago was the last one you had? You should NEVER have more than 1 test within a 1 year period....! That might cause a severe hypersensitivity reaction. Also once you are treated all the physician needs to do is follow up with X-ray......once a year thats it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. The first test was done back in 1995 when I arrived my first university.

Today I asked the nurse to skip the skin test and just do the xray. She said that if we did that, INS might ask for REF and might delay the process. I read the page you refered to and it says that the reaction will take 48 hours so I guess it will show in a few days. :(

Yes unfortunately the INS likes to do EVRYTHING by the book.....they are not Doctors....unfortunately. So they will not see the reason for not doing the TB test but the clerk there is only trained to see check boxes.....(he probably is not paid to think or does not have the time). So i guess you cannot avoid it and get it done for your sake....

Hello Everyone,

I got my Medical without TB test and just X-ray. Most of the people from India and neighbouring countries will have +ve test as we are more or less expose to TB bacteria. But if X-ray is clear then their is no need for treatment. My doctor clear told me to do X-ray without TB skin test.
I dont think there should be any problem. If INS have any objection than they should better study medicine.

Desi munda is right but thses USCIS people don't know this fact. They will send REF for TB test. I did the same thing only x-ray but I am sure they will send me REF for that.
Wait & see.
