hey all. i had the tb test done on thursday and had to go back today. the spot on my arm where i got the shot was a bit red but nothing horrible. however i had the same test earlier this yr for a new job and had no reaction at all. i asked the nurse whe documented the results today if it meant i was positive for tb but she said there is not a positive or negative reading and the doctor determines that. i see him on tueseday for my physical and im a bit worried. did anyone here have any sort of reaction to the tb test at all?

I had the same result and needed to do the x-ray. But it ended up nothing happened. In fact this is very normal.

According to my doctor, some people just get the positive TB result 'coz they had some specific vaccinations which might affect the TB result.

don't worry...I had the same experience....i my case..positive TB test is almost a guaranteed result for us south americans...has smtg to do with the vaccines we get when young...or actual contact with the virus. But the dissease does happen.

I've had a positive skin test all my life, and always ended up having an X-Ray. I just waived the skin test for the immigration exam, because I knew what the result would be.

Positive skin test usually means nothing - only an X-Ray can tell whether you have TB or not.

My wife TB test came back +ve. Now the USCIS doctor is asking her to get X-Ray and take some Rx for 6 months.

How much does X-Ray cost and where to take it.
We are in the Bay Area, CA.

Thanks..

I would be very cautious about the Rx! Has your wife been ever vaccinated against TB? A friend of mine had a positive result and he didn't know that it was because he'd been vaccinated as a kid. Some young doctor who did the test didn't know that either and put my friend on some drugs. It was completely unnecessary and caused a lot of problems and anxiety.

When I had my USCIS exam, I told them right away that I'd be positive since I was vaccinated as a child (everybody in my home country is). They told me to get an X-ray (which my insurance covered) and everything worked out well.

Hope that helps...

I underwent the TB exam earlier this month and tested positive initially but after the X-ray it was alright. Like someone said earlier, if you were vaccinated with certain vaccines as a child you will always test +ve in the initial test.

Unless absolutely necessary (i.e. suffering from TB), I would strongly suggest not taking those medicines...*Disclaimer*: I am not a Doctor!! They cause many side effects. Your USCIS doctor is kinda obliged to tell you to undergo the treatment.

Anyway, I dont know where in the Bay Area you live but I went to this place in downtown Sunnyvale across from the Macy's to get my X-ray done. It should cost about $45 and may or may not be covered by your insurance.

Could you please provide the Lab Address in Sunnyvale.

Did they give you the actual X-Ray, that you took to the USCIS Approved Doctor (where you did the skin test originally)

Thanks a lot.

I was trying to remember the name and tried looking up on google, but I can't find it. Literally just drive over to Macy's and look on the other side of the street..there is a bunch of shops in a strip mall-ish place and it's right there. You can't miss it.

They faxed over the x-ray to my doctor, who then completed the I-693 forms and gave it to me in a sealed envelope with her signature across it which I mailed to USCIS. She also gave me a copy of the forms (not the x-ray) for my record.
