Is it OK from an immigration standpoint to have income from rental property while someone is on H1b visa. If its managed by a property management company, can it be considered passive income. Will it be considered self employment over and above the H1b work. Obviously any work without authorization while someone is on H1b is illegal.

If having such rental income is considered additional employment, then what would happen in this scenario. If someone has EAD with pending I 485 from employment based immigration petition, can that EAD be used for work and at the same time have rental income from investment real estate.

I know that investment income from stocks and bonds is considered passive income and that poses no problem as far as future immigration is considered.

Thanks JoeF.
Let me ask this

If someone has rental income from a property management company while on H1b, is there a problem with immigration in future or H1b status.

If someone has EAD from NIW, does that present a problem with immigration status if, one has rental income from a property managed by a property management company.

I have the EAD currently but i am not using it and keeping my H1b status, so i guess mainly H1b status will apply.

Is it OK to take depreciation on rental property in H1b case. Is there a certain number of properties above which it could be construed as a business/self employment but not otherwise. Any other people with such experiences.
