I was wondering if it is recommended to get the tax transcripts for the last 5 years even if I was not asked for it in the yellow letter or the citizenship interview letter.

Does anyone if the tax transcripts needs to be certified?

Now that you've asked the question, go get them. They're free so no sense losing sleep over your tax transcripts.
Call the IRS 800 number and have them fax or mail them to you.

the last 3 year's transcripts are free, for years prior to that, you got to pay IRS to go through the archives.

For 4 and 5 years back you can also get tax ACCOUNT transcripts from the IRS which are free. They don't show the same amount of detail as RETURN transcripts but do give you your "standing" with the IRS. I was actually able to get return transcripts for the past 4 years for free. I called the 800 and talked to a person who handled the request for me. The automated telephone menu is a real pain in my opinion.

I got my last year transcript and was not asked for it by the officer. I did read here in a different conversation that some were asked. Don't lose sleep over it.get what you can, and take it with you. Good Luck :)

No need for that....unless you have a tax problem...unpaid taxes, missed returns...

Also, I got all 5 years free...Just ask nicely when you call IRS and explain why you need it...do not use paid services...
