I'm about to sent the n-400 form based in 5 years residence before the end of 2009. By the time i'll be call for the interview is going to be around mid 2010, so i'd like to know, what "5 last years" tax transcripts I'm going to need to have ready for the interview: 2005/9 or 2006/10. Thank you.

hi Fabi - you can order these Tax transcripts from IRS (free of charge) and they will send it to you within week or 10 days, so do not wait for Tax transcripts, just send in your N400 ASAP - good luck

Interview might be much sooner than you think.

As Citizen said, you can get transcripts much faster.

They are considerate with years unless you have tax issues. So if you do not have 2010 transcripts (because you still did not file ... let us say in March), they should not make it a big issue. They will ask for only those years which are due (or past-due) from a filing perspective. No need to worry much about this.

Why do you need tax transcripts?

For many things, for 5 year rule applicants, the tax transcripts are to provide support documents about your answers to section 10 questions that you file your taxes on time, do not clam non-resident status in Tax return and you do not owe taxes.

In addition to above, for 3 year rule applicants via marriage or those who obtained their GC via marriage, to show that you file joint tax returns as Husbund and Wife.

Also, good statnding on Taxes is a support for maintaining residency.

To give you some idea... I went through interview on 12/8 and my IO was ALL BUSINESS... she asked for every single item I brought (all items on Johnny Cash list from the sticky)... EXCEPT for tax documents. I brought them but she did not ask to see them. So I think, unless you have some significant tax problems don't worry too much about it... get what you can so that you are prepared if they ask you and then relax because you are prepared. :D
