Hi,

Hi i am in USA now and won the Green Card lottery and came here few months ago. Unfortunately my wife will not be coming to US and so i not a permanent resident of US

We are still legally married and have marriage certificate from my former country. Now in USA i am living with my parents (who were here before me). I have a job now but dont have any mortgage payments etc excep for for auto car loan.

My question is that when i file tax return end of year, is my tax situation better if i keep a remain married status or show a separation/divorce status. i dont send any support payments etc to my wife by law of my former country

Basically any advice from former winners of GC on how my current marital status situation can be advatageous or disadvantageous as far as my tax returns goes.

I don't think you can claim that you are single, if you are, in fact, married. Talk to a tax advisor at HR Block or a similar company.
