Tax Return Transcripts - should I order them?

I do travel more frequently than most people. But even though I stay most of the time in the U.S. I wonder whether I should carry my tax returns with me everytime I cross borders.

I do have all copies of my 1040 tax returns I ever filed. Are those sufficient proof of my tax compliance or should I order some transcripts?

Also, should I do the same thing for the state and local tax returns?



P.S. - I have never been asked to show those papers but wanting to be on the safe side I wonder what your experience is

So when you are crossing borders as an LPR, how can you prove you pay U.S. taxes if asked?

I've never been asked in all of my entrances. Are you carrying your lease and utility bills, too?
