Hi,

I am not sure where to post this.

If your consulting firm is in one state, and you work in different state, which state do you pay taxes for?

My brother's W-2 has state taxes cut for employer's state while he lives in other state.

Thanks

Whichever state you have a tax liability for, which may be one, the other or both. Generally speaking, however, if you live and work in GA and the employer is in VA, you would pay GA state taxes, not VA.

I'd get this straightened out. If not, he may be hunting down several thousand dollars in state taxes from a state he did not need to pay to, and have a several thousand dollar liability to his home state.
