I have my W-2 and tax transcripts from the last 3 years.
Now in another theread it was mentioned that State tax return is also important.

How do I get those?
I filed elctronically all 3 years.

Also, do the consular officer actually ask for it?

I do not see it in the list of "required documents"

State tax returns are never asked for.

If you have filed federal taxes electronically, your tax software will have a saved version of the return. If you used a tax preparer like H&R Block then you can contact them for a copy. If they do not have it, you can request IRS to give you a tax transcript. It is an official record of your return and you can get it by calling a 800 number. It takes 1-2 weeks to receive the transcripts.
