Tax records Questions and more

Hi,

I'm reviewing my past tax records and have a few questions-

1. Will USCIS check the past 5 year's records, or since the year I became p/r which was 6 years ago?

2. I realized that I filed both my hubby's and my tax as "single" (I can't remember why, probably on some stupid advice of friends or something). I'm afraid that it might raise suspicion if USCIS got their hands on our returns in 2001.

3. My hubby and I got married in our home country. We got noterized legal marriage proof and everything. But we went on to get a US marriage license in NYC 2 years ago. Our friends advised that it's better to have a US license if we wanted jointly buy properties here. So we did. I now become afraid that this may also raise suspicion by USCIS if this came up in the name check they ran.

Please give your input. I want to have the least loose end in my n400 app as possible. Thanks!

1. The tax papers are not needed for most cases, they are needed for people who have stayed outside US for long time periods. Don't pay extra to get the copies from IRS. Take whatever papers you have with you(personal records, printouts)

2. You will most likely be not asked for the papers. /also they just need to verify if you paid taxes so I doubt they will sit and check the veracity of the rest of the info.

3. Your initial papers are fine, don't mention the 2nd license. You seem to have a lot of friends who are morons.

There is seems to be more twists and turns to your story as it unfolds than a Tom Clancy novel.

1. Quitting job before obtaining GC.
2. Not divulging correct martial status on a Tax return (big red flag, did you ever try to correct this error?).
3. Two marriage licences (never heard of this one).

Luckily this happenend more than 5 years ago and may not come up in the interview. However, you might want to talk to a good attorney hopefully who may not try to scare you just keep him/her in your employment while fleecing you unecessarily.

As aabbcc11 says, please do not take legal advise from your friends.
