Tax ID Card/Registration

Hi,
I recently had a H1B denied due to 221(g) act of INS. The documents they have asked include a Tax ID Card/Registration. The Officer at counter told me that its a must before you go to US for work? I spoke with my employer in US and they told me this must be for company, as it can't be done while I am in India.

What does this mean???

I have a backgroud of been in US on B1 and getting it extended by 3 months. My petition was filed while I was in US.
 
tax id is for the company. You dont need a tax id (or social security number) to enter US. Did you get a TIN when you were in B visa here before?
if no, then US consulate wants to know whether the company is genuine or not...

No I didn't Apply for anything.... I was there for a business meetings and was travelling most of the time.

But he specifcally asked for Tax Card ID/Registration ... I work for one of the Top 5 IT companies in India and my company is well regonized by the consulate ... There has been so many people traveling from my company to US but no one ever faced such a problem... This is like a transition from parent company to its sister concern in US

Also my HR guys in US showed me a IRA Tax Id on I279 form and told me that's the one. And I was carrying that document with me.... Should I get the photocpoies of the registration and IT Card registration of compnay from them before reapplying....

Also if someone can update in on 221(g) and how many times this kickbacks can follow then that would be great.. Since I don't wont to go there and get the same reply again...

you mean IRS tax id in form I129? (IRA is an investment product)
Unless the consulate is able to verify the federal tax id , US consulate will keep asking. But if you dont provide the right ID next time, the visa is likely to be refused, depending on your luck (some visa officers are not that picky)

My papers had a company registration photocopy with the papers on the last page of the documents.

I would also ask for the Tax Id card photocopies from my employer.

Will the officer this time take another interview or will he be satisfied with the documents along????

What are the chances of getting the Visa on second chance...?

Hi Jaxen,
Thank you very much.... I finally got H1B stamped this week .... It was very interesting and this time the officer didn't ask me any questions just regualr ones and didn't even bothered to look at Tax ID Card/ Registration ... I was only carrying the companies registration as additional document.

It was a matter of 2 minutes and it was done...
