Tax for TN

OK, it's tax season again. The question maybe answered before. But I couldn't find a good answer for my situation.

I was working in US for the whole 2006 and no income from Canada. In Canada, I only have a checking account with $600 and a RRSP account. So,

1) I only need to file tax to IRS, no need to Canada, right?
2) Do I have to file NR73 to claim that I am a non-residence?

Thanks

How to file an exit return? Any special form I can download?

thx

If you have absolutely no income from cdn sources, u do not even need to file any return. Just call them (if you want to) and tell them that you moved out of Canada and you are now a NR. Many people do that.

This is wrong. Departure from Canada triggers deemed dispositions and a return should be filed. You can't just tell them you've left the country and leave it at that.

-- Yep, you can do that. I know one guy called the CIC to ask them whether he could do that and the agent gladly accepted his request over the phone.

Of course, what you are saying about filing the formal return with the departure date is the best thing to do, so that everything is on the record.
