Tax extension and coming interview

Hi All,

I applied citizen based on 5 yr LPR
I filed extension for 2010 tax with some payment. If I file now, I do have to make more payment. I have every intention of filing before extension deadline and pay all due with penalty if needed. I have interview on end of July. Does it affect on my interview? What should I do -
1. Do I need to file 2010 tax before interview? Is it must?
2. Can I just take extension approval email? Does it consider as I owe tax?
3. Can I fill out tax with payment plan?

Thanks
Jose

Chances are 95% it won't be an issue whether you file or not. Usually when you apply with the 5 year rule they won't ask for tax returns if you answered NO to the "failed to the file"/"overdue taxes" questions on the N-400. You sent payment with the extension request, and received approval for the extension; if the payment covers all that you owe, you could legitimately say NO to those questions.

Did you write NO to the tax questions? Did the payment you sent cover 100% of what you expected you owe, or do you still have some unpaid taxes?

If you want to protect yourself in case of the 5% chance that the interviewer makes noise about it, you should file the tax return with full payment before the interview.
