I am a green card holder who got married in India during November last year to a girl who had obtained her F1 visa before the marriage. She is currently in the US and persuing her studies. Since I am required to file my tax returns as married do I need to register my marriage in the US before I include details about my spouse in the tax records?

No. If you're married, you're married.

You marriage is valid in the USA, but if you spouse does not have a Social Security Number, you may need to get a Social Security Number, or a Tax ID for her.

Thanks

Thanks for the clarifications. My spouse is a student and is getting her own social security number. She is using this to file for her tax returns when she get's a part-time job.
