Hi,
Could anyone pls. answer my below questions. Thanks in advance,

1. I own a company. My company Tax Accoutant forgot to mention to me about filing state tax ( which has to be filed for each quarter) and so, I filed for three quarters late. However, I did not owe any money to State for 2 quarters and for only one quarter I owed money and I ended up paying the amount along with penalty (late fee).
Do I have to mention about this in citizenship form N-400 ?

2. I want to change my last name .If I fillout in N-400 "Name Change" column, will it delay the citizenship process ?

3. Do I have to goto court and get a letter for name change if I fillout "Name Change" column in N-400 ?

Thanks in advance,

1) USCIS is only interested in personal taxes . The interview is for you not your company.
2) Requesting a name change does delay the oath ceremony as you will need a judicial oath ceremony to administer the oath for name change.
3) You do not need to do anything for the name change except request it in the N400.

About name change, delay depends on which DO you are in. Some DOs where there is same day oath, name change can obviously cause delay since you will not get oath the day of interview. You will get it when they have judicial oath (In Atlanta DO, that is about 4-5 times a year and you may not get immediately next oath date) In some DOs where there is no same day oath, additional delay may not be much since oath was never on the same day anyway.

If you do name change with N400, you get the name change order along with your Nat cert. That is equivalent of court order you would have received from district court for name change. You can use that to get name changed for license/SSN etc. So you do not have to go to court if you opt for name change in N-400 (Well, you are technically going to the court for oath where you also get name change order but you don't have to go separately)

Yes the name change delay is not consistent - if it is important to you opt to do the name change during the n400 rather than after.

Thanks for the answers. Just want to clarify the below.
In my marriage certificate , I have my last name as my father's name.Do I have to change the name in my marriage certificate ( my last name as my husband's first name ) ?
Also, can the last name be my husband's first name as we don't have any family name (as per the Indian naming standard). Will this pose any problem as in U.S. both husband and wife will have the same last name (which is not in Indian naming standard).
Pls. let me know .
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
My last name in my birth certificate is little bit different with addtional letter compared to my PR card and other documents. I had interview and the person taking interview asked me that the name that's in the birth certificate will be used for my passport and I said okay as I did'nt wanted any delay. And also they said that they need to follow whatever name is on the birth certificate. I will be getting a letter in few weeks time for my oath, so when can I change my last name? so that correct last name can appear on the passport. I appreaciate all the responses, thanks much!!!
