Talked to an IIO today as follows:
me: I have filed my 485 in the VSC. I would like to check the status of my application.
IIO: uhhhmm, what is your EAC no.?
me: AC#@@#$@#$#@
IIO: What is your name?
me: my name is _____
IIO: i am seeing that we have the application. It is showing as pending.
me: Any idea when I should expect the approval?
iio: It is showing that it is in the "WORKING AREA". So, somebody will look at your case in 2 months.
me: Is my application assigned to any officer?
iio: I have no way of knowing that.
me: so, when should I expect approval?
iio: i do not know when/whether it will be approved or not, but, somebody will look at the case within 2 months.
me: thank you.

Has anybody heard about this WORKING AREA? What is it and how many coconuts should i offer to Ganesha so that it is picked up soon?

Any and all help is welcome.
Thanks,
Hiten

The words Working area/pending/under review all mean the same thing. Your application may be one of the 100 applications that the officer(s) has on his/her que. When they get to it - only Ganesha knows - :-)
