Hi,
I am Canadian citizen and now applying for my TN Status as I got job in USA which comes under NAFTA treaty.

I need some clarification please.

1. If my employer (in USA) writes a seperate letter to border people, mentioning my position, period of stay, salary etc., then too I will have to show my original office order??
2. Do I have to get my credentials evaluated in Canada (as I have M.Sc. from India).

Thanks a lot in advance...

1. The "TN letter" is the official one.
2. This is good practice. You may need it in future anyway.

Thanks for your reply,
I have one more question. I will be going to USA by flight. But can I just go to any POE (by car) and get my TN visa in advance? And also, can I come back to Canada immediately after getting that?

Many POEs will only issue the TN at the border when you are "on your way to work", but this is not an absolute requirement. However once you have TN, you can cross back into canada as soon as you wish.

Hi Nelsona,
Thanks a lot for your reply. My husband is non-canadian and we are planning to take his TD visa from Ottawa embassy once I get my visa.
Can you please tell me about fees etc for TD visa?
If I get my TN Visa, then is it absolutely sure that my husband will get his TD visa?

Look at the consular website for fees and procedures. Unless hubby is a criminal, he will get TD Visa.

Thanks a lot Nelsona,

Now, I have got my TN status at the border (I came back from Canadian-US border after TN status and not yet entered in US. Upon request, I got my TN for three years and almost a month in advance).

Now we were trying to schedule an appointment at Toronto US consulate for my hubby's TD status (he is Indian with PR status in Canada).
They have category called TN/TD..
We had to fill DS-160 form prior to an appointment. After giving all the details about him (there were no questions about me, only about his studies and job), it looks in the application that as if my hubby is going for TN visa (as no separate option like TD visa). He is asked to come with his job, etc.. His appointment has been scheduled.
I am very tensed.. If he will go with copy of my TN-visa stamped passport, my job offer etc and explain there that he is there for TD visa, not the TN, will it work? Or will I have to accompany him in future with new application??? I have to go to US soon, and not sure whether a TN visa holder is needed or not at Canadian embassy for non-Canadian spouse.

Thank you very much.

Tina

He can go to the Consulate himself, with a COPY of your I-94 (you need to keep the original I-94 with you at all times) and marriage certificate, along with the other documents required for his TD. He should not need to provide any of the supporting documents related to your TN, but should have them with him just in case.

Thanks a lot friend,
It gave me great relief. We have Ontario marriage certificate to prove our relationship. Do you think that, he will have to take photographs (of marriage etc) also with him?
Regards,
Tina
