Taking appointment for H4 visa

Dear All,

I am currently in the US and trying to make a H4 visa appointment at Chennai through the VFS website for my fiancee. Our wedding is planned for mid April. It would appreciate it if someone could throw some light on the following questions:

1. In the DS-156 form that needs to be filled while taking an appointment, what should I fill for marital status of my fiancee. Obviously she will be "married" when she goes for the interview, but at this time she isn't.

2. Similarly in Q. 37 on DS-157, do I fill "Husband" in person's staying in the US?

3. For Q. 22, that asks for dates arriving in the US? Can I fill out approximate dates or leave it blank. We have not made any specific travel plans as yet.

As a follow up question, can the information filled in during the time of taking an appointment be changed later prior to the appointment.

Thanks.

H4 visa

hai,

i am also H4 visa holder and i am in US. i want to know when ur fiancee is coming to US. if the visa interview is after marriage the nno need to worry, u can fill the I-156 form on that day itself and not now.

the answer for ur quwstion is,

she should mention as 'husband' in the name box

for arrival date mention "within one week'.

all the best for ur marriage

Hi,

Your situation/information when you take the appointment and when you actually go for the appointment need not be the same. I mean, there can be changes like yours, people can get married etc

But you don't have to really worry about this because you have the option of making changes to your forms even after you take the appointment.

hope this helps.

Hello!

I need to get H4 visa appointment in chennai during april. My employer already applied for H1b transfer (2months now), but have not received the approval yet. Can I make the appointment now using vfs service by paying the necessary fee in HDFC. I have the WAC number with me. Any body can help me out in this...

FYI, my H1B is a valid one from my previous employer.

Thanks for your help.

If I were you, I would go ahead and take the appoinment (the more you wait, the lesser your chances of getting your desired date) using the valid H1B. And once the transfer comes through, you can change that data on the VFS site.

Or, if they don't ask you for your petition details while taking the H-4 appointment (I am not sure if they do), then give your current employer details. But if they do ask, then you will have to enter the EAC number, expiry date, petitioner name (company name) etc. Just the WAC number will not be sufficient.

By the way, this is just my opinion and I am no lawyer.
