Take US Geen Card, loose Canadian Citizenship opportunity?

Torontonian, I think you can keep Canadian citizenship!

I did more inquiry into your statement. I was asking if it is true that you lose Canadian citizenship if not born in Canada when getting US citizenship. I found the following at www.grasmick.com:

At one time there were severe restrictions on taking US citizenship. Now, although there is a renunciation of allegiances clause in the US citizenship oath, the State Dept finally realizes that such a renunciation is not binding on any other country.
Every country defines who its citizens are and under what conditions you acquire or lose their own citizenship.

To renounce Canadian Citizenship, you can only do so by making oath before an officer of the crown authorized to accept such renunciations. You do not automatically lose Canadian citizenship by acquiring another citizenship. Taking the US citizenship oath does not change your Canadian citizenship.

The USA does not require that you formally renounce citizenship of other countries. You must, however, in all your dealings with the US governments, acknowledge yourself as American and American ONLY.

No, it is not. While you take an oath to renounce all foreign loyalties when US-naturalizing, you will not lose Canadian citizenship for it. See http://travel.state.gov/dualnationality.html

I went to state.gov and found that you would lose US citizenship if you are already a US citizen and apply for another citizenship - A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship of the country of birth. U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or require a person to choose one citizenship or another. Also, a person who is automatically granted another citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship. However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship.

I think that this is a good news for us "naturalized Canadians".
