Surrender Certificate - Toronto

Hi, has anyone here applied to CGI Toronto or any other mission in Canada? I submitted the surrender certificate application last week in person, they cancelled & returned the passport on the spot, and they said that the actual surrender certificate will arrive in the mail (I gave them a prepaid envelope). Does anyone know how long it might take to get surrender certificate?

kulb,
It is great that you were able to get it on the spot, same day.... unlike many here on the other side of the border....
It is rather strange that they need more time to fill and stamp the SC for you... Maybe it is time to start another thread to track Toronto OCI cases...:):)

Is it a mandatory requirement to submit SC when applying for OCI et al or can one just give a copy of the "Cancelled" Indian passport?

Hi gc4us,

When I went to the Consulate, they were stamping everyone's passports as cancelled and returngin them back to the applicants; however they were keeping everyone's surrender cert applications. They said that the SC will be mailed when it is ready, but not sure how long it will take to prepare & stamp the SC.

When I spoke to VFS (the company that handles consular services like visa, OCI on behalf of the Consulate), they said that I can submit the cancelled passport with the OCI application. So then what is the value of SC?

fyi - Received surrender certificate today within 8 working days. It's professionally typed by CGI on their letterhead.
