We are trying to obtain a surrender certificate for the entire family which includes 3 adult (18+) children. Do each application require $20 (total of $100) mailing fee or is it just $20 per family?? Response is greatly appreciated.

If you are sending all applications in one pacakage then include $20 only.

this was under the chicago How to apply for oci card but I wasn't sure if this applies for just the OCI Card or surrender certificate because its listed under a section called renunciation of citizenship/surrender certificate on the how to apply for oci card.

(2) Mailing Fee:

i ) Individual applicant US $ 20.00
( ii ) Family : US $ 20.00 for first applicant plus US$ 1.00 for each additional applicant i.e. for family of two persons US$ 21 ($ 20+1); for a family three persons US $ 22.00 ( 20+$1+$1 ); for a family of 4 persons : $ 23.00 ( $ 20+$1+$1+$1 ); However family comprises of Husband, wife & two minor (below 18 years) children only.
If there are 4 applicants in the family, but children are not minor, then mailing fees will be US$ 61.00 (20+1+20+20) as the children applications will be treated as individual applications.

it's 20 bucks per adult. also, are you surrendering your passport now or have you already done it. the passport fee for the surrender went up a few years ago. it's 175 per person. if you've misplaced the surrender certificate then i don't know the procedure for it. look at this

Amount:
US$20/- for those acquiring US citizenship upto 31.05.2010
US$ 175/- for those acquiring US citizenship on or after 01.06.2010.

the amount listed there is per person. not by family...

Let me clarify:

I am trying to cancel our expired passport and obtain surrender certificates. I am aware of the fees associated with the surrender certificate ($175 or $20 depending on the date of obtaining foreign citizenship), What I am not sure is the mailing fee?

So in my case

Surrender Certificate Misc Fee 5 Adult x $20 = $100
Mailing fee = ??? (is it just $20 for entire family) or( $20+$1+$20+$20+$20 = $81)

hope I was clear. I am not been able to get a live person at consulate.

http://www.cgisf.org/renunciation/ricsc.pdf look at the bottom gray area of the page. it says $20.00 processing fee. that fee is collected from each individual because they do the same paperwork for all the people in the group. which is why they require more money... make sure you send 100

it is 20 bucks for each person, so total would be 100 bucks.
i know that for sure because my aunt did it

also maximum number of four applications per applicant would be accepted. she had to send other 2 under a different packet.
good luck

Found the answer

Q:
I have to process Surrender Certificates for my whole family. May I send all the applications as one mail and a combined money order/certified check for all the fees and mailing charges?

A:
Yes. The total mailing charges for the whole family should be US$ 20 plus one dollar extra for additional applicants. You need not send mailing charges separately for all applications of a family.

thanks everyone

see thats what i mean by the consulate doesn't know what they're talking about. my relatives got a different reply that was liked to the website i put in the previous comment. and blueniler got a different reply. ugh... i hate these consulates. they give multiple answers and screw us over in charging for forms.

you are right. Each consulates have their own form and their own way of interpreting the rules and establishing policies. Its almost impossible to get a hold of a live person and emails goes unanswered. Btw mine was through the Chicago Consulate.

Agreed, the worst part is I can't have my papers done from any other consulate but the san francisco one. They have got the worst customer service. No one answers your phone, they ignore my emails when i point out the mistakes on my passport done by the consulate.
atleast you got lucky with them...
good luck
