Surrender Certificate for Newly became US Citizean who does not have US Passport yet

I just got my citizenship this week.

According to this (http://chicago.indianconsulate.com/5OtherConsularServices/1CitizenshipRenunciation.html) I need to get Surrender certificate within 3 months. According to this (http://chicago.indianconsulate.com/...nshipSurrenderCertificateformPDF13May2010.pdf) I need to provide US passport with it.

Now my question is what if I don't get my US passport in time? 3 months is cutting too close? Am I thinking something wrong here?

According to the Department of Justice website (https://passportstatus2.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_ip.asp) passports are being processed within 4 - 6 weeks. Mine came in 2.5 weeks with regular processing. Given this, there is plenty of time to apply for a surrender certificate. Even if it comes in 6 weeks, that would mean you will still have over a month to apply for the surrender certificate. Besides, I believe it is only recommended, not required, to apply for surrender certificate within 3 months.
