Surgery date and when to apply

Hi
My wife is scheduled to have a surgery next week. I am planning to apply for Citizenship couple days before her surgery. Now my question is
She will take 4 weeks to recover, so can't go for fingerprinting etc. So is the strategy of applying right before her surgery optimal.
Doesn't it take about 4-5 weeks for FP date (we live in IL)? or should I postpone applying until her surgery?
Please advise.Thanks

Applying before her surgery shouldn't be an issue as she'll have a chance to reschedule FP (most DOs allow walk ins) if she receives FP appointment before she recovers.

The fingerprint appointment may be as soon as 3 weeks after the application was sent. Recheduling and walk-ins are possible, but sometimes USCIS will refuse a walk-in or they'll mess up and deny you for not showing up even though you requested a reschedule. USCIS is not the most sympathetic and competent government organization.

Even if the reschedule is recognized and granted, the rescheduled appointment may be 2 months later or more.

To avoid those hassles and delays, she can just wait about 2 weeks after the surgery to apply, so the fingerprint appointment will happen after she has recovered.
