My lawyer did not ask me for copies of 1) Pay stub, 2) W2 and 3) tax returns when I filed for 485. Someone else told me these are required. Can someone shed some light on this?

thanks.

Not required but it is..

it is good to send everything in the packet to avoid delays later....
like INS may generate RFE for Tax Returns etc.....

What can I do now?

1) Given that these documents were not sent the first time, can I add these documents?
2) Does everyone get an RFE or is it only some people? What is the delay due to RFE?

You better ask him whether he needs all these docs. Some of the lawyers as a**holes and they never give you enough information. Later they come back to you and ask for additional documents.

In my case I submitted all documents in Sep 2000. The idiot lawyer never said a word until end of October and later asked me for new birth ceritificate affidavits in his standard format. So the entire filing processing got delayed by almost 2 months and now my ND is 12/20/01.

Usually you don\'t required to send them but it is a common practice not send all those docs you mentioned in intial I-485 filing. If INS requires any additional info. they will send you RFE which may delay your case from 1 month to 2 months. By the way when did you filed your I-485?

To avoid RFE, you should

It is always a good idea to send what it might be needed. Sending them does not do any harm to you, but you would be tortured if you do not and later on you are asked for further evidence...

Not required to send

None of our colleagues(who have got their approvals within last month) got a rfe for the same. our lawyer too doesn\'t ask for these docs. more important are birth certificate/affidavits, marriage certificate, employment letter & forms.
don\'t worry.
