Sufficient funds question for B1/B2

I'm looking to bring my Romanian girlfriend to the US on a tourist visa to stay with me for a few months. A Romanian friend of mine told me that she will need to prove she has sufficient funds of about $3,500 minimum in her bank account. He said my own bank account statement would be ineligible.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? Or any other way to convince the embassy she'll be financially supported?

She doesn't have the funds and neither to I, at the moment, to put into her bank account. Could I write a letter, instead, to verify that I will support her? (which I can, just don't have the full funds at the moment).

Thanks in advance!

The applicant needs to overcome 214(b). A major part of that is to show deep social and financial ties to one's country of normal residence. Thus your GF would need to have some financial foundation in Romania.
