Guys
We had smooth experience in getting our CP done
1) We reached delhi a week earlier on 10th and got our marriage certificate made at Tis hazari court on 12th.. Had an overall cost of Rs 5000 for the same to be issued and given to us ont he same day!
2) Got our medical done on the same day from Dr Diveshwar as his clinic is open from 4- 8. The problem here is that you have to got to two other clinics to get the blood test and x ray done which becomes cumbersome and should be avoided specially with Delhi traffic in the evg
3) Interview day
Reached in time at 7.45. Were in Immigration Visa queue till 8.10am and were in the embassy at 8.30. Were allowed to take every thing except cell phones which you have to leave at gates
Step 1: Were aked to go to Window 13 and submit our appointment letters
The lady there was courteous and asked each of us to take out DS 230 -II and sign the same at the seating area
Step 2 : All the employment based cases 9 which were 4 our us) and family based ( around 10) were then asked to form a queue and the consular officer came out in the lobby and read out the sworn in statement to which all of us said " yes"
Step 3: We were asked to deposit our drafts by writing our name and local address and phone number at the back of each draft. Both the application fee and issuance fee were all taken together.
Step 4: We were asked to wait in the seating area for our name to be called
Step 5: our name was called at window number 15 where we met a courteous Indian Consular who was polite and gentlemen. he just asked for papers and asked no questions at all except to my wife he said "See there is so much change in you now ( he was looking at old photograph in her passport and her recent photograph!).
He also noted that our marriage certificate was 5 days old to which he said jokingly - Did you got the made specially for this purpose? We said yes and he just smiled..
He also asked us if we had stayed in any other country than India/ US for more than 6 months.. we denied.. but he asked me casually - " By any chance do you have police clearance certificate?".. I said I have one made from SFO embassy ( as both my and my wifes passports were renewed in sfo we could get the police certificate made in one day). I gave him the same which he attatched with our papers.
As he was going thru each set- he kept giving us the original of the birth certificate and marriage certificates back and kept only the copies.
Only papers we gave and in the following order:
Photographs( we got them at Kumar studio- he gives the back in nice small photographs envelops which are very handy)
DS 230 1, DS 230 2
Employment letter notarised
Birth certificate original
Birth certificate- Translated copy if the original is not in English
Xerox copy of the above Original and translated copy
Marriage certificate- Original
MC- Copy
IRS 9003
Affidavit of support Notarised for dependants- Wife and daughter ( Even if your spouse is working do take the same
Sealed medical report envelope recd from Doctor- no x-rays were asked /given.
Tax transcripts issued from IRS
He gave us the original of BC AND MC and the Tax transcripts back and as i have written above asked for police clearance certificate in addition to the above
I get the impression that this is not mandatory but since I had one for both me and my wife it came in handy! So if you have got your passports renewed here in US at any Indian Consulate you should get the PC here as it can be issued on the same day. Otherwise they take more than a month. I would strongly recommend all to get the PC made as in current circumstances it might be safer to have the same
One by one he coallated the papers for me my wife and my daughter cancelled our H1 visa\'s. Notably my B1 visa was not cancelled. My wifes h1 and my daughters h4 were cancelled.
He then smiled and said any of us could come back at 4.30 to collect the visa\'s and that\'s it. We were out
