Hi,
thanks for joining us. i have been reading thru the threads you wrote. congs on going through successfully. pray for us.
I would like to ask you a few questions. From your threads of 2006, it looks like you had your medical examinations in the UK, where did you have your interview from? was it nairobi or UK?
How did you go about the medical examination. My case number is due in Feb. right now am looking forward to taking a journey from Uganda to kenya for the medical examinations before i recieve my 2NL letter.
How should i go about it, like do you have any idear about how i can contact doctors thr (nairobi) so that i set up an appointment in Nairobi with the doctors before traveling? i want to ask for leave for two weeks from my place of work and make sure all is done in that time and i just wait to ask for second leave to go to the embarssy. Help guide me
Secondly, Can some one get the vaccinations needed from my doctor here in Uganda and i just take the certificates to the doctor in Nairobi showing them that i accomplished all vacinations, will that be accepted.
I am trying to reduce the time in Nairobi. please help me out.
Thanks again for coming back to the website. Your God sent.
Take care, hope to hear from you
Hey,
congratulations first of all that you received the first NL.
I (or actually we) went through the whole process in the UK. The medicals were done in the UK. The 2nd NL letter informs you where to take the medical from i.e. with which doctors. It cant just be any doctors of your choice. On completion of the medicals, the results are sent directly to the US embassy, where they will have them during the interview.
The 2nd NL letter usually comes a whole month before your scheduled interview date. This gives u plenty of time to schedule your medicals. The letter also informs you that if you cant take your medicals before your scheduled interview, becoz of say scheduling backlog issues with the clinic, then you can still do them after your visa interview. BUT, your visa wont be processed till you have done the medicals and they have received the results. Remember, the results go straight to them not given to you.
I would suggest you wait till thet 2nd NL letter comes. And immediately it does, call the clinic and schedule an appointment. Then sort out your leave. The medicals for us took about 3 hours i'd say - and thats becoz we were 3. Its a simple straight-forward process.
What you can do though, in order to decrease your costs of the extra shots they might give you then and charge you for it there, is to bring your immunizations upto date.
For instance, we thought we had all our immunizations spot on, but what we didnt know is that in the US, Yellow Fever, or something like that - pardon me i cant remember which one exactly it was - is given again as a booster during teen years. So we had to be given those shots there and we were charged for it.
So look up your immunization certificate and make sure you have taken all the required shots. You can go to any doctor and ask them which ones need to be given a booster. Am really sorry here that i dont remember which one it was that we had to be given a booster for. Then get the boosters taken at any clinic at an affordable price.
Also, make sure when you go to Nairobi for the medical you have enough spare cash on you for whatever else they might ask you to pay for. Dont have the minimum required for the medical.
I hope this answers your questions. But if anything isnt clear, please ask again.
While you are also waiting for that 2nd NL, work towards getting everything they listed on the 1st NL.
