Details...

Medical Checkup at Breach Candy....
Hospital folks checked our appointment letters and asked us to fill forms. Then they collected 1800/- Rs each and ask us to wait for blood samples & chest X-rays. After x-rays & blood sampling was done we were asked to return to hospital after couple of hours for physical checkup. After physical checkup we were asked to return for the reports. Overall the process went smoothly.

Consulate Interview......
Interview was scheduled @ 9:15AM. Reached there at 08:00AM, got inside by 08:30AM. Our documents were collected by 09:00AM and we were called for interview at 11:45AM. They asked me questions about my stay in the US, as in the no. of years I have been there, my reason for being there, my employer etc. The only thing unexpected was, he asked me for my degree & diploma certificates . But I was prepared, so it was all good. So make sure you carry other supporting documents along with the standard documents requested by the consulate. We got our visa on the same day at 03:30PM.

Port of Entry DTW ....
Immigration officier sent us to a special processing window. The lady at the window did not ask us a single question. Do make it a point to carry a photograph, as we had to give her one each. Then there was fingure printing & signature for the permanant GC and we were done.

Again, thanks to everybody who helped me during this process.

Ram,

Congrats again! and thanks for sharing the lil tidbits esp the pic at the POE. will take plenty myself just in case.

Here are minor details I forogot earlier.......
1) During medical exam. we had to pay 180/- + 50/- Rs. per head for vaccination etc.
2) Currently if you have expired visa stamped on your passport remember to carry visa extention "Notice of Approval" documents.
3) You don't need to carry X-rays to interview.

Question: I brought X-rays w/ me thinking that immigration officer at POE will collect them, but I was not asked to submit my X-rays. Is it unusual?

Ram,

how many days in advance did you do your medicals before the interview date? is a day earlier enough or is that cutting it too close? and do they give u the medicals the same day? also, is the chest x-ray required for everyone or it depends on ur other tests? if we were to go get the tb test done in the US and carry those records, would it suffice?

also if ur travel plans included going thru UK by any chance...did u have to get a DAT visa?

thanks.

praytx,

We did our medicals a week before interview date. I think medicals just a day before interview is not such a good idea, perticularly if you have female(s) with you. Chest x-ray is required for everyone, but you don't need to carry it to interview only on your way to USA. I would recommend not doing any tb tests here, I had no earlier medical records for me and my wife and it wasn't a problem at all.

As I had a expired visa on my PP my travel was via Amsterdam. You need to check with somebody else on transit visa requirements.

I agree with ram.

doing medicals a day before is cutting it too close.

Also don't bother to get any tests done in the US. It might be complete waste of time and money.

tks guys for ur responses...based on that we have changed our travel plans, we will be arriving in India 6 days before the interview date and go for the medical test the same day. hopefully this gives us enuff time.

also, do you know how long the passport has to be valid from the day of the interview date? is it 6 or 12 months? i have emailed the mumbai consulate about the issue and still am waiting for a response.

tks.

A week is exactly what he had as a cushion between our medicals and interview, should be enough for you as well.

My guess is 6 months, but it would be better if you get it clarified from somebody.

When is your interview?

Hi Ram,

tks for ur response. dont know our interview date yet...but am hoping for something in March given the way the process works. Sandeep in another thread provided a link to mumbai consulate requirements for CP interview and it mentioned '6 months'. but it wud be nice if they responded to my email...give me some confidence:)

good luck to you.

Ram,

As per Immihelp, Breach Candy hospital takes 2 day for medical. How long did it take for you to complete your medical?
