Successful CP @ Montréal

Guys, we completed CP @ Montréal successfully on 01/11/2002 (Friday). There were about a dozen other interviewees that day. The process was quite smooth and took us about 2hrs 30mins from the time we entered from security to the time we got the cell phone back that security guys retained.

Here\'s the brief overview:

 1. Paid $260 IV application fees.
 2. Submitted birth, police, and marriage certificates with the employment letter & medicals.
 3. Took oath and were briefly interviewed (about 6-7 minutes). Questions asked: \'What do you work as at your company?\'; \'Have you worked for any other company?\'; \'When did you get married?\'; To my spouse: \'Have you lived in US before?\'; \'What are you going to do once you start to live in US?\'. Then we were told that your visa is approved and we got all our originals back except for the police certificates & medicals. Got the feeling that the lady just wanted to see our faces and interview was just a formality.
 4. Paid $65 IV processing fees.
 5. Got the sealed envelopes for border crossing.

Later that day we crossed the border and got I-551 stamped on the passport. That took us about 15 minutes. And YES, we got our ceremonial welcome to the USA.

It was a lot less stressful than we thought.

I remember one couple (looked more like mother-son) did leave the building after the interview w/o paying the IV processing fee. Don\'t know if they got rejected.

How did you pay?

Congrats.
In loonies or US dollars? Credit card, personal check drawn on US Bank, certified back check, or money order?

Thanks.

I think you can pay cash in either CAN$ or US$. I used my VISA and they also accept MasterCard. I don\'t think that personal checks are accepted. Not sure about Certified Checks or MOs.

Great as long as they accept credit card.

How about your experience with other places like medical clinic, foto studio, etc? Do they also accept credit cards issued in US?

Thanks.

Only CAN$ are accepted at Dr. Howard Seiden & Associates in Toronto. Got our photos taken in US. Generally US issued MasterCards & VISAs are accepted all over the world and for sure in Canada. I used my VISA to pay for parking meter in Toronto. Discover and AmEx can rarely be used in Canada.

Congratulations...

I was wonderingwhere do you need the police certificats from and how do you obtain them. Do you need the certificates from only the countries you have lived in after the age of 16 or from all countries you have lived in?

Thanks

Medical and Employment Letter

First off, Congratulations!

Medical:

I notice your medical was in Toronto. I live in the US, is it possible to get the medical done in the US? Was the doctor referred to you by the US consulate? Please advise on the doctor selection process. When did you get the medical done? How long did it take for the results to come back? did the doctor send results to the US consulate or did you get them there? Thanks.

Employment Letter: How recent must this letter be? Is it sent at any other time in the process or only produced at date of interview?

Once again, thanks for sharing your experience. cheers -gabroo

Police Certificates

after age 16 that\'s what I have done. Some countries are exempt, Canada is NOT. This is what we did to get them:

We live in the US, we went to the local town police office and got finger printed on their cards. The cards were sent in to the RCMP office in ottawa. It took almost 2 months to get the certificate back. The certificate was a stamp on the finger print card document with a cover letter.

I applied for I 485 from NSC.. Can I get an interview at Montreal with
my 485 receipt???

You need to get PCC from all the countries where you have lived for more than 6 months after age of 16. Contact RCMP or any police clearence agency in Canada. There no need to get PCC based on fingerprints.

I am not sure if you could use 485 receipt. In my opinion you could file I-824 to opt for CP and use that receipt to get the interview at Montréal. I heard that lately 485 was not taking much longer time as compared to CP. How long have you started your 485 process?

MEDICALS must be done at the country where your interview is .. NO EXCEPTIONS. And YES, the list is provided by the consulate. We did ours Dr. Howard Seiden & Associates 3 days before our interview and got the results on the same day @ 4:00 PM. The results were in a sealed envelopes to be given to the Consulate at the time of interview.

My EMPLOYMENT letter was about 4 weeks older. I think, it should be issued after the date on which the interview appointment letter was issued to you by the consulate. I only produced it at the time of interview.

AOS to CP

Dear all,
I had filed my I140 for AOS process on Dec.05/2001, and now wish to change to CP, and was told by the attorney that since my citizenship is Canadian, and Montreal Consulate do not accept the AC140 therefore I would have to make the I824 to change from AOS to CP, and it may take more than 6 months for approval.
My attorney also mentioned that it may take longer when swicthing case from AOS to CP. I wish to know if anyone has done the same I am going thru and their experiences related to this issues.

Thanks for your input.

I know someone who opted for CP in Mexico did file for 824 to change AOS --> CP and then sent only the 824 receipt (I think) notice with P3 to the consulate. In your case you will have to send the same to NVC for Montréal interview. The receipt notice takes about 3-4 weeks. Check with your attorney.

Processing Times

How long did it take you to get the P.3 package after getting the I-140 approved. How long did it take you to get the interview after sending the package to the US consulate in Montreal.
